Automatic translation gets your store into another language. It rarely gets your product names right.
The text editor is where you take over. It lets you change the translation of any text in any language on your store by hand, so the wording matches how you actually talk about your products instead of how a machine translated them. You work section by section, with the default language on one side and your own wording on the other. In this guide, you'll learn how to open the text editor, translate a section, and handle the special cases.
The text editor lets you rewrite the translation of any text in your store by hand. Open Store settings, click Languages, open the text editor for the language you want, pick a section such as products, and type your own wording beside the default language.

Can I edit the data in the default language?
No. To change content written in the default language, go back to the page it belongs to and edit it there. To change a product's default-language details, for example, open the product page and edit them from there.

Every section of your store that customers see:

What do I do with the special symbols and tags inside some strings?
Some strings, such as those in page and review translations, contain code fragments like </span>.

They are formatting code that controls how the message or the text is displayed. Leave them exactly as they are and translate only the words around them.
📝 Important notes
Translations save automatically as you work, so you can move between sections and languages without a save step.
Manual translation is slower than the instant kind, and it is the only way your store sounds like you in every language it speaks. Start with the pages a shopper reads before they buy, and work outward from there.
